The short version

How they differ

MakeMusic Studio is one plan at $19.95 a month, plus $4.95 for each additional teacher or admin, and its card and bank payment fees are set on its pricing page. MyVocalStudio is free for one teacher on the Solo plan, $10 a month on Encore, and $6 for each additional teacher on Ensemble, never more than $39. Card payments go to your own Stripe account at Stripe’s fee, and we take no cut.

MakeMusic Studio now has a recorded music library built in, with Suzuki and Disney recordings, interactive sheet music and tempo controls. On the MyVocalStudio side: lesson notes with your own sheet music and recordings attached, practice logs, group classes and recitals with tickets, a CRM for new inquiries, an AI assistant that makes changes when you ask, and an iPhone and Android app.

Honestly

Who should stay with MakeMusic Studio

  • You teach with the built-in music library. MakeMusic Studio’s Suzuki and Disney recordings, interactive sheet music and tempo controls have no match in MyVocalStudio.
  • You bill families by subscription or take bank (ACH) payments through MakeMusic Studio, and that setup is working.
  • Your studio is settled and your families are used to booking there. A move still takes some of your time.
Switching

Moving your studio over

MyVocalStudio reads the MakeMusic Studio client list export directly: Clients, then Actions, then export as CSV. Parents and children are matched into families. The export does not include each student’s instrument or teacher, so you choose lesson types and assign teachers after. Nothing is saved until you confirm.

If your lessons are also in Google Calendar or another calendar app, bring them in from there and standing weekly lessons become recurring ones.

Yes. Fons was renamed MakeMusic Studio in June 2026, with the same platform and team, according to its own announcement.

Is MyVocalStudio cheaper than MakeMusic Studio?

Yes, at every studio size we compared. One teacher is free on the Solo plan or $10 a month on Encore, against $19.95. Five teachers are $34 against $39.75. MakeMusic Studio prices from its pricing page on October 7, 2026.

What do card payments cost on each?

On MyVocalStudio, only Stripe’s standard fee (2.9% + 30¢ per US card on October 7, 2026), paid to Stripe in your own account; we take no cut. MakeMusic Studio lists 2.9% + $0.30 a card charge, plus 0.4% of subscription volume.
