MyVocalStudio vs Calendly and Acuity

Calendly and Acuity are scheduling apps: people pick a time, pay if you ask them to, and get a reminder. Many teachers start there. MyVocalStudio does the booking too, and keeps going after it.

The short version

How they differ

After a lesson is booked, a studio still has recurring weekly lessons to keep, make-ups to credit, invoices and packages to track, notes and practice to share, and families with more than one child. MyVocalStudio keeps all of that on each student’s record, and students and parents see it in the app or any browser.

Calendly has a free plan for one event type, with paid plans from $10 per seat a month as listed. Acuity starts at $20 a month, or $16 billed yearly. MyVocalStudio is free for one teacher on the Solo plan and $10 a month on Encore.

Calendly’s page shows its per-seat prices with a yearly-billing discount badge and does not say which billing the listed price is, so we quote it as listed.

Who should stay with a scheduling app

  • You only need people to pick a time, and you already handle billing, notes and practice somewhere you are happy with.
  • You book more than lessons, such as consultations or meetings for another business, and want one booking link for all of it.
  • You take payments through Square. Acuity supports it on every plan.
Switching

Moving your studio over

Put your students in a spreadsheet, CSV or Excel, and upload it. The columns are matched for you, even when the file is messy, and nothing is saved until you confirm.

If your booked lessons also show in Google Calendar or another calendar app, import them from there and standing weekly lessons become recurring ones.

Questions

Can I use Calendly or Acuity for music lessons?

Yes, for booking. They let students pick a time, pay and get a reminder. What they are not built around is the rest of a studio: recurring weekly lessons, make-up credits, packages, family billing, lesson notes and practice. MyVocalStudio covers those as well as the booking.

Is MyVocalStudio more expensive than a scheduling app?

Not for one teacher. The Solo plan is free with unlimited students, and Encore is $10 a month. Calendly lists Standard at $10 per seat a month and Acuity starts at $20 a month, or $16 billed yearly, on October 7, 2026.

Do students need an account to book?

No. Students and parents book from your studio page without an account, and can use the app or any browser later to see lessons, pay and read notes. Sign-in is by one-time code, Google or Apple, never a password.

Can I take payment when a student books?

Yes. You can charge a saved card when a lesson is booked, or bill afterward by invoice. Card payments go to your own Stripe account, your Venmo, Cash App, PayPal or Zelle can go on payment links, and MyVocalStudio takes no cut.

How do I move from a scheduling app?

Put your students in a spreadsheet and upload it; the columns are matched for you. If your lessons are in Google Calendar or another calendar app, import them too, and weekly lessons become recurring ones.
